Houston, we have a problem.

The message below from Citizens for the Wyoming Range ran as a full-page ad in the Jackson Hole News & Guide yesterday:

Hoback River once again named one of America’s most endangered rivers

By Lisa McGee, national forests and parks program director

This week, for the second year in a row, the Hoback River near Jackson Hole, Wyoming—the gateway to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks—has been named one of America’s most endangered rivers.

As many readers know, Houston-based Plains Exploration and Production Company is proposing to drill an industrial gas field, using hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking” at the headwaters of this congressionally designated wild and scenic river.

PXP’s proposed drilling operation threatens to harm this treasured national and global resource. This is a problem.

Luckily, there is a solution.

PXP can sell its oil and gas leases to a conservation buyer for permanent retirement. Legislation passed in 2009 ensures the area can never again be leased for oil and gas drilling. This is a win-win solution.

Click here to learn more and add your name to a letter that will be sent to the company’s CEO, urging him to do the right thing.
